Welcome to the dog days of summer! We hope everyone has had a restful summer and been able to recharge their batteries for the second half of the year. While many of us use the summer to take a dream vacation, it’s important to remember that crime doesn’t take a day off. When we get complacent, that’s when criminals will strike which can put a damper on your restful summer.
There are some things you can do to make your property less attractive to the criminal element –
- Leave lights on a timer or use lights connected to an app to give the appearance that someone is home.
- Have a neighbor pick up your mail/newspaper so it doesn’t start to stack up in front of your home.
- Join Crime Watch! Crime Watch members can let the patrol officers know when they will be out of town and the officers will keep an eye on your property.
- Join Volunteers in Patrol! VIP members are the eyes and ears in the neighborhood for our police and are a deterrent to crime.
In other neighborhood news, the construction continues on the LBJ East project. The project to straighten out the Skillman/Audelia intersection was slated to take place in early July but TxDOT has postponed that until later this year. There is construction occurring at Royal and LBJ though. Be aware that the lane markings change frequently as work is performed on the bridge.
