Skyview Elementary News

Congratulations Skyview Elementary! The test results are in and the school is performing at “Standard” for the second year in a row and even received a distinction in Post-Secondary School Readiness. Way to go Skyview students, teachers and Principal Dodd!

“Fill the Pack” Fundraiser for Skyview Students. 100 Women of Lake Highlands (a charitable organization) in partnership with LH Exchange Club and Knights of Columbus have partnered to provide backpacks for Skyview students filled with food to supplement meals during the Thanksgiving break. Approximately 680 of the 800 students live at or below the poverty level. More than 85% receive free or reduced lunch.

Each back pack will cost approximately $45. A Launch Party & Fundraiser for the event will be held on November 2, from 7 pm to 10 pm at the KayCee Club on Shoreline Drive—an evening of cocktails, appetizers, live music and camaraderie with the community. The event is open to the community and free, though contributions will be accepted.

“Fill the Pack” happens November 14 when volunteers will place food items into backpacks. On November 16 the packs will be delivered to students at Skyview’s Multicultural Night.

The address will be followed by a panel discussion and a facilitated question and answer session to dispel any “myths” and misinformation, as well as address your questions and concerns. All are welcome.

Panelists:      Dallas City Council representation; RISD Board of Trustees; Skyview PTA President Katera Fobbs; Skyview PTA Board Members.

Facilitator:      Former Skyview PTA President, Sarah Greenman.

New marquee. Skyview has a new electronic marquee for distributing information to students’ parents. It is lit from 6am to 8pm. These are the hours approved by Richardson ISD and the hours that parents are looking to the marquee for information. There has been one complaint from the neighborhood that the marquee is an annoyance. Skyview understands that this is a new addition to the Whitehurst-Meadowknoll intersection that may take some adjustment. If you’d like to know more about the marquee and its hours of operation please feel free to email me Sarah Greenman at sarah.greenman@gmail.com or contact RISD.
